You might find their fossils in China, Mongolia, Russia, or Thailand. This dinosaur is very important to scientists. It is the most species-rich non-avian dinosaur genus ever found. This means there are more different types of this dinosaur than almost any other.

How did this dinosaur live its life? Adult Psittacosaurus were obligate bipeds. This means they walked on only two legs.

They had a high skull and a very strong beak. Scientists think they might have had complex behaviors. They can guess this by looking at the size of their brains.

They likely had a very good sense of smell and sight. They may have been active during both the day and the night. One fossil even showed long filaments, or hair-like bits, on its tail.

People have been finding these fossils for a long time. In 1922, Henry Fairfield Osborn went on an expedition to Mongolia.

A chauffeur named Wong found a nearly complete skeleton there. Osborn described the first species in 1924.

He named it Psittacosaurus mongoliensis. He chose the name because the snout looked like a parrot. Another scientist, William King Gregory, helped suggest the name. Osborn also thought it belonged to a new family called Psittacosauridae.

There are many facts about these dinosaurs from many places. Scientists have found fossils of hundreds of individuals so far.

They have found many complete skeletons. They have found babies and very old adults too. This helps them study how the dinosaurs grew.

Some scientists say there are up to 13 different species. This is because so many fossils have been found in Asia. In some areas, they are so common that scientists call the rock layers the Psittacosaurus biochron.

Learning about Psittacosaurus is like putting a big puzzle together. We can see how they are related to other dinosaurs. They are an early type of ceratopsian.

This means they are part of the group that includes the famous Triceratops. Most of their close relatives lived in Asia. However, one relative named Aquilops lived in North America.

By looking at all these fossils, we learn how life changed over millions of years. It is amazing to see how much we can know from old bones.
