It is a talk between two thinkers. One is Socrates. The other is Protagoras. Protagoras was a famous teacher. People called these teachers Sophists. They met at the home of a man named Callias. Many people were there to listen. Socrates and Protagoras had a big debate. They talked about virtue. Virtue means being a good person. Socrates asked if virtue can be taught. He thought it could not be taught like a skill. He used builders as an example. You ask a builder about a house. But you ask everyone about how to run a city. Protagoras told a myth to answer him. He told a story about two brothers. Their names were Epimetheus and Prometheus.

In the story, Prometheus stole fire for humans. This helped them survive. Protagoras said people try to teach goodness. Parents teach their children to be good. This shows that virtue is a skill. The two men did not agree. They kept talking about big ideas. They wanted to find the truth.
