This bridge is very special because it has shops built on it. Long ago, butchers and farmers worked in these shops. Today, you can find jewelers and art dealers there.

The bridge has a long history. It was rebuilt in stone many years ago. The current bridge has stood since about 1339. It is the oldest bridge in the city of Florence. During World War II, most bridges in the city were destroyed. However, the Ponte Vecchio was spared.

A long walkway called the Vasari Corridor runs above the bridge. It was built in 1565 to connect two large palaces. Today, many people walk across the bridge to see the sights. It connects important areas like the Piazza del Duomo to the Oltrarno. You can walk along the river to see its beautiful arches.
