Water created this amazing stone arch. The river Ardèche flows through this area. The river used to flow in a curve called a meander. It met a narrow escarpment, which is a steep rock wall. The water broke through that narrow rock wall. This left a wide and high opening. Now the river flows right through the bridge.

History lives very close to this bridge. The Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave is in the near vicinity. This cave holds very old art. These are Paleolithic cave paintings. They are about 30,000 years old. These paintings are some of the earliest known in the world.

People tell the story of the cave through film. A director named Werner Herzog made a movie. The film is called Cave of Forgotten Dreams. It came out in 2010. The movie shows the ancient paintings. The bridge is only 5 km from the town of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. This makes it easy for people to visit.

Visiting the bridge is a fun way to see nature. Many people go there to use small boats. They enjoy canoeing and kayaking through the arch. It is a very popular spot for these activities. You can see how the water shaped the land. The bridge connects the river to the canyon. It is a wonderful place to explore.
