France uses a special way to run its country. This is called a semi-presidential system. It follows rules written in a document called the Constitution of the Fifth Republic.

This system divides power into three different branches. These are the executive, the legislative, and the judicial branches. This setup helps keep the government working fairly for everyone. The nation calls itself a democratic and secular Republic.

The judicial branch uses judges to make sure laws are followed. This system is based on civil law. It grew from the old Napoleonic Codes. There are two main parts to this branch. One part deals with civil and criminal law. The other part handles appeals against decisions made by the government.
