He was born around 61 AD in Northern Italy. His uncle, Pliny the Elder, helped raise him. His uncle was a very smart man. In 79 AD, a big volcano called Vesuvius erupted. Pliny the Elder died while trying to rescue people. After this, Pliny became his uncle's heir. This means he took over his uncle's estate. He also changed his name to Pliny the Younger.

Pliny had a very busy life. He was a lawyer and a leader. He worked for many different Roman leaders. He even served as a governor in a place called Bithynia. Pliny wrote hundreds of letters. These letters are very important today. They tell us how people lived long ago. One letter describes the volcano eruption in great detail. Scientists even use his name to describe that kind of eruption. He also wrote letters about early Christians. These are some of the first Roman records about them.
