Planck postulate

physical science Maturity 9-11 Next article →

In 1900, a scientist named Max Planck had a big idea. He studied how objects give off light. This is called black body radiation. Planck found a new rule for energy. He said energy moves in tiny, separate steps. He called this idea quantization. This means energy is not a smooth flow. It comes in small, fixed bits. Planck used a special number for this. It is called the Planck constant. He used this to find a math formula. This formula showed how light is sent out. At first, Planck was not sure about this. He thought it was just a math trick. He did not know it changed science forever. In 1905, Albert Einstein used this idea too. He used it to explain the photoelectric effect. He said light itself has these tiny bits. These bits are called photons. Later, Niels Bohr used the idea for atoms. He used it to study hydrogen. This helped him find a math value called the Rydberg constant. Many people used this rule to learn about the tiny world.
