Tiny bits of matter have a special size. This is called the Compton wavelength.

Arthur Compton found this in 1923. He studied how light hits tiny bits called electrons. Light can act like a wave. He found a way to link light to mass. The Compton wavelength is the size of a light wave. This wave must have the same energy as the particle.

Scientists also use a special version. We call this the reduced Compton wavelength. It is the first size divided by a number. This number is called the reduced Planck constant. This version helps us show mass on a tiny scale.

We use these sizes in many math rules. These rules are called equations. One rule is the Schrödinger equation. It helps us study how electrons move in atoms. The reduced Compton wavelength also helps with other rules. These rules explain how particles act in space. It is a way to see how mass and light work together. This helps us understand the very small world.
