Pierre Bourdieu was a famous thinker from France. He was a sociologist. This means he studied how people live in groups. He was born in a small town in southern France. His father worked for the post office.

Bourdieu wanted to know how power works in society. He studied how people keep their status. He saw how some groups stay powerful for a long time. He believed that schools do not always give everyone an equal chance. He thought that some people use their knowledge to stay ahead.

He created new ideas to explain this. He spoke about "capital." This is not just money. He said people have "cultural capital." This means they have knowledge and ways of acting that help them. He also spoke about "habitus." This is the way we learn to act through our daily lives.

Bourdieu wrote many books. His book "Distinction" is very well known. It looks at how we judge things like art or food. He died in 2002. His ideas still help us study the world today.
