Goffman wanted to know how we act with others. He thought life was like a play. He called this idea dramaturgical analysis. He said we use "impression management." This is when we try to show a good image to others. We might hide things to fit in. For example, someone might hide a tattoo for a job.

He wrote many important books. One book was called "Asylums." It was about people in large institutions. He also studied how people talk in public. Goffman was very smart. He was even the president of a big group for sociologists.

He had many interests outside of school. He once worked as a pit boss at a casino. He also liked the stock market. Goffman died in 1982. Many people still study his ideas today. He helped us understand our daily lives.
