He was born in 1897 in a place called Prussia.

His life was not always easy. During World War I, he worked for the army. Later, he had to leave his home. He moved to France and then to Great Britain. This was because of the Nazi party in Germany. During this time, his mother died in a very sad way.

Elias wrote a very important book. It is called "The Civilizing Process." In this book, he studied how people change over time. He found that people learned to follow more rules. They learned to control their feelings and be polite. He said this helped people create a new kind of self. This self is calm and follows social rules.

He was also a great teacher. He helped start a new way to help people through group therapy. He taught at many schools. He even taught at a university in Ghana. Many people think his books are some of the most important ever written.
