He was a sociologist. This means he studied how people live in groups. He was born in 1944 in a town called Stolp. Later, he studied many things at a university in Munich. He studied law, philosophy, and politics.

Beck had many big ideas about our world. He spoke about a "risk society." He said modern life creates new risks for everyone. These risks include things like pollution and climate change. He also thought about how the world is all linked together. He called this idea cosmopolitanism. He wanted people to think about the whole world, not just one country.

Beck was a very important teacher. He worked at the University of Munich for many years. He also taught at schools in Paris and London. He wrote many books and articles. Because of his work, he won many awards. One was the Schader Prize. This is a very big honor for scientists in Germany. He died in 2015 at the age of 70.
