It sits in the Western Pacific Ocean. The floor of the sea is a large plate called the Philippine Sea Plate.

This plate makes the sea floor.

The sea has many deep spots. These are called trenches. The Mariana Trench is one of these. It has the deepest point on Earth. The sea also has island arcs. These are long ridges that rise above the water.

This sea is full of life. It is part of the Coral Triangle. This area is a global center for marine life. You can find over 3,212 kinds of fish there. Many sea turtles and sharks live here too. Some fish, like the blue-spotted angelfish, live only in this area.

Many people rely on the sea for food. Fishermen catch tuna, mackerel, and shrimp. This helps millions of people earn money. But the sea faces some problems. Warmer water can hurt the corals. This makes it hard for many sea animals to survive.
