Peter Safar was a doctor who saved many lives. He is known for his work with CPR. CPR is a way to help a person when their heart stops.

Safar worked with a man named James Elam. They found ways to help people breathe. They showed how to tilt the head and lift the chin. This opens the airway. They also used mouth-to-mouth breathing. Safar showed that even regular people could do this to help.

He combined three main steps. He called them A, B, and C. A is for the airway. B is for breathing. C is for chest compressions. These steps help keep oxygen in the body.

Safar also helped make training tools. He worked with a maker named Asmund Laerdal. They made special dolls called Resusci Anne. These dolls let students practice CPR.

Safar did much more in medicine. He helped start the first intensive-care unit in the United States. He also helped start ambulance services. He wanted to help people during big disasters. He studied how to help after earthquakes. His work changed how doctors help people in emergencies.
