It is made by a company called PepsiCo. In 2023, it was the second most valuable soft drink brand in the world. It has a very long rivalry with Coca-Cola. People often call this competition the "cola wars." This rivalry has shaped how the two brands compete in markets everywhere. Many people around the world recognize the Pepsi name today.

Making the drink involves mixing several ingredients together.

In the United States, the recipe uses carbonated water and caramel color. It also includes high fructose corn syrup, phosphoric acid, and caffeine. Natural flavors and citric acid are added to give it its specific taste. Some versions use sugar instead of corn syrup. In many countries, new recipes now have less sugar. They might use sweeteners like Acesulfame K or Sucralose to keep the taste while being healthier.

The story of Pepsi began a long time ago in North Carolina.

A man named Caleb Bradham created it in 1893. He originally called it "Brad's Drink." He sold it at his own drugstore in New Bern. In 1898, he changed the name to Pepsi-Cola. He chose this name because people thought it helped with digestion. The original recipe used vanilla and sugar to make it taste good.

Pepsi has faced many hard jobs over the years.

In 1923, the company went bankrupt because sugar prices changed during World War I. A man named Charles Guth eventually bought the brand and changed the syrup formula. During the Great Depression, Pepsi became very popular by selling 12-ounce bottles. They used a catchy radio song called a jingle to show value. This song told people they could get more drink for a nickel. This smart idea helped their profits double between 1936 and 1938.

Today, the Pepsi brand is part of many different parts of life.
