He was born in Paris in 1875. His father was a refugee from Poland. Landowski spent fifty-five years making art for the world to see. He created many large monuments for cities and public spaces. His work helps people remember history or feel wonder.

He made over thirty-five monuments in Paris alone. He also made twelve more in the area around the city.

Making these huge statues is a very big job. Landowski studied at the Académie Julian and the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1900, he won a special prize called the Prix de Rome. He won this prize for a statue of David. Later, he won a gold medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics. This medal was for his sculpture called "The Boxer." This win made him very famous all over the world.

Because of this, many people asked him to make art for them.

Landowski's life included both art and hard times. He fought in World War I at the Battle of the Somme. This war changed how he made his art. After the war, he made memorials to honor those who died. He made a memorial called Les Fantomes in Northern France. He also made monuments in North Africa. One was called Le Pavois in Algiers. Another was a monument in Casablanca.

This statue is called Christ the Redeemer. It was finished in 1931. Landowski worked with a civil engineer named Heitor da Silva Costa. He also worked with an architect named Gheorghe Leonida. Some people say Landowski designed the hands and the head. However, Leonida is said to have created the head. This statue is a very important piece of art in Brazil.

Today, we can still see his skill in many places. From 1933 to 1937, he led the French Academy in Rome. He also helped choose winners for the Prix Blumenthal. This was a grant for young French artists. Landowski died in 1961 in a suburb of Paris. Now, a museum in Boulogne-Billancourt holds his work.
