Hindemith believed music should have a purpose in life. He called this idea Gebrauchsmusik, which means "music for use." He wanted his art to be useful to people and society. This idea helped him write music that anyone could enjoy.

There are many ways Hindemith made his music. He often used a style called Neue Sachlichkeit, or "New Objectivity." This style was clean and clear. He liked to use the musical rules of the past. He used things like counterpoint, which is when different melodies play at once. He also used a special way of building chords. His music often has one strong, main note to hold it together.
