Parody music

arts Maturity 7-9 Next article →

Parody music is a way to play with sounds. Musicians can copy a famous song or a certain style. They might change the words to be funny. Sometimes they do this to make a joke. Other times, they do it for a serious reason.

Long ago, composers used parody to be serious. In the 1500s, they used old tunes for new religious songs. J.S. Bach also used his own old music for new works. He did this to save his music for later use. This helped keep his songs alive.

Many people use parody to be silly. Mozart wrote a musical joke called "Musical Joke." He made fun of simple melodies. Saint-Saëns also wrote a joke for his friends. He changed the speed of well-known tunes in "The Carnival of the Animals."

Some people copy how stars sing. Stan Freberg once mocked a song by Elvis Presley. He joked about having too much echo. Other artists use silly sounds to change a song. This shows great skill and makes people laugh.
