These fly through the air like a dart.

People have made paper planes since the mid-1800s. Folding them is both an art and a science. It helps students learn about flight. They can study lift, weight, drag, and thrust. These are the forces that make things fly.

Some people make very advanced planes. They use CAD software, which is a computer tool for design. In Japan, Professor Yasuaki Ninomiya made special planes called White Wings.

These use paper templates that you cut and glue. Some even have propellers that spin in the wind!

In South Africa, Professor E.H. Mathews wrote books called Paper Pilot. His designs can fly very far. Some can even fly the length of a rugby pitch! He used a bungee system to launch them. This helps the planes fly over 120 meters. Paper planes bring people together through skill and play.
