Oxpeckers are small birds from Africa. They live in the open savanna. Their name comes from the Greek words for "ox" and "eater." This is because they sit on large animals.

These birds eat tiny bugs called parasites. They eat ticks and small insects. Some oxpeckers even eat earwax or dandruff. They may also drink blood. Some birds make new wounds to get blood. Because of this, some people think they are parasites. A parasite is a living thing that lives on another.
