society Maturity 5-7 Next article →

Thrushes are a large family of birds. They live all over the world. Most thrushes are small or medium in size. They have soft feathers. Many are grey or brown. Some have spots on their bellies.

Thrushes live in wooded areas. They often look for food on the ground. They eat insects, worms, and snails. They also like to eat fruit like berries.

These birds help nature in a big way. When they eat fruit, they swallow seeds. They later pass the seeds in their droppings. This helps plants grow in new places. Some thrushes fly very long distances. They move to different areas during the summer. This helps spread seeds even further. Thrushes build nests shaped like cups. They often put them on tree branches. Both parents work together to raise the young. Most thrushes lay two to five speckled eggs. Some birds, like bluebirds, nest in holes instead of branches.
