Stern did many important tests. He worked with a man named Walther Gerlach. Together, they did the Stern-Gerlach experiment. This work helped people learn about spin. Spin is a special way tiny parts move. Stern also studied the proton. He found the magnetic moment of the proton. This is a way to measure its magnetic power. He also helped make the molecular beam method. This is a way to study atoms and molecules.

In 1933, Stern had to leave his job in Germany. He moved to the United States to stay safe. He became a professor in Pittsburgh. Later, he moved to Berkeley, California.

Stern won the Nobel Prize in Physics. This is a very big award for science. He won it for his work with molecular rays. He was also nominated for this prize 82 times. This is a very high number. He died in 1969 in Berkeley.
