Graham was famous for being very steady and tough. His teammates gave him the nickname "Automatic Otto." This was because he was so consistent in his play. He could throw the ball very far. He could also throw with great accuracy. He used skills from basketball to move well in the pocket. This helped him avoid defenders while he played.

His journey to football greatness began in Waukegan, Illinois. His parents were both music teachers. He learned to play the piano, violin, cornet, and French horn. He went to Northwestern University on a basketball scholarship. He did not play football until his sophomore year. A coach saw him throwing in a practice game. This changed his life and led him to professional sports.

Graham achieved something very rare in sports history. He won championships in two different major sports. In 1946, he won a title with the Rochester Royals. This was a basketball team in the NBL. Then, he won four titles with the Cleveland Browns in the AAFC. He was the first person to do this. Only one other person, Gene Conley, ever matched this feat.

Graham's career spanned many important years and places. He played ten seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He played in the AAFC and the NFL. In 1948, his team had a perfect season. They did not lose or tie a single game. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965. His great skill helped change how people played the game.
