Bin Laden had many reasons for his anger against the United States. He believed the U.S. was acting unfairly toward Muslims in the Middle East. He was also upset that American troops were staying in Saudi Arabia. He felt this was a violation of his religious beliefs. He used these views to justify many violent acts. These acts included bombing the World Trade Center in 1993. They also attacked U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998.

In the end, the search for bin Laden led to his death. In 2011, U.S. troops found him at a compound in Pakistan. They killed him during this mission. After he died, a man named Ayman al-Zawahiri took over al-Qaeda. Today, most people see bin Laden as a symbol of terrorism and mass murder. However, some people in certain groups still see him as a hero. His life remains a very serious part of modern history.
