life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Ornithischia is a large group of dinosaurs. Most of them were plant eaters. They are called "bird-hipped" dinosaurs. This is because of how their hips were shaped.

These dinosaurs lived on every continent. They came in many sizes. Early ones were small, about 1 to 2 meters long. They walked on two legs. Their long tails helped them stay balanced.

Many different kinds lived in this group. Some had horns on their faces, like Triceratops.

Others had thick, round skulls for bumping. These are called pachycephalosaurs. Some had hard armor on their skin. Stegosaurus and ankylosaurus are two examples.

Scientists are still studying if these were early feathers. Some dinosaurs even lived in herds. Young ones often stayed in flocks away from the adults.
