In 1919, the Simplon Orient Express opened a new path. This used the Simplon Tunnel and went through Italy.

The 1930s were the most popular years for the train. During this time, three different services ran at once.

Later, air travel and high-speed trains became more common. The original service finally stopped running in December 2009. This happened because planes and fast trains were cheaper.

You can still ride a version of this train today.
