The Old World is a name for a very large area.

This area includes Africa, Europe, and Asia. It sits in the Eastern Hemisphere. For a long time, people in Europe thought this was the whole world. This changed after 1493. That is when people found the Americas. They called those new lands the New World.

Many groups of people lived in the Old World. They were often in contact with each other. They used a trade path called the Silk Road. This path helped them share goods and ideas. Much of this happened in the temperate zone. This is a part of the world with mild weather. It includes places like the Mediterranean and China. It also includes India and parts of Africa.

These lands saw many big changes. They moved from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. During this time, many new ideas and religions grew. This includes ideas from the Far East and the Near East. Some people also call this big land the World Island.
