society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

An official script is a way of writing. A law or a constitution picks it. This helps people with school and work.

It can also help people talk to each other.

Some places use more than one script. In China, there are two main ways to write. Mainland China uses Simplified Chinese. Places like Taiwan use Traditional Chinese. This can lead to big debates. Some people think script choices change a culture.

In India, many scripts are used. People use Devanagari for Hindi. They use the Tamil script for Tamil. Other groups use the Bengali or Gurmukhi scripts.

Many other lands have official scripts too. In Egypt and Saudi Arabia, people use Arabic script. In Greece, people use the Greek alphabet. Some places use the Latin script, like Italy or the United Kingdom. In Russia, the law says people must use Cyrillic. This was a big change for some groups there. Each script is a tool for a group of people.
