Some bugs have a baby stage called a nymph.

A nymph looks a lot like the adult bug. They usually lack wings. They also lack adult parts. Nymphs grow through a way called incomplete metamorphosis. This means they change in steps. They do not have a pupa stage. Instead, they shed their skin to grow. These steps are called instars.

Many bugs use this way. This includes grasshoppers, cockroaches, and cicadas. Some bugs live in water.

People call these water nymphs naiads. Dragonfly nymphs live in water. Adult dragonflies live in the air. This is a big change. Fish like trout eat these water bugs. Fishermen make fake bugs to catch trout. They use patterns like the Pheasant Tail Nymph.
