Many Indian religions share a big idea called Nirvana.

This idea is about finding perfect peace. It is a way to be free from suffering. People also seek to end a cycle called samsara. Samsara is the cycle of birth and rebirth.

The word nirvana means "blown out" or "extinguished." Some thinkers say it is like a fire going out. In Buddhism, this means the fire of greed is gone. It also means hate and confusion are gone. When these fires stop, the cycle of rebirth ends. This helps a person reach a state of great happiness.

Different faiths see this goal in different ways.

In Hinduism, many believe in a soul called Atman. For them, liberation is a union with Brahman. In Jainism, nirvana is a release for the soul. It frees the soul from karmic bondage. Buddhism has a different view. It teaches the idea of anatta. This means there is no permanent, unchanging self. People follow special paths to reach this quiet state.
