Niels studied at a university. He became very good at math. One big puzzle had stayed unsolved for 250 years. It was about a type of math problem called a quintic equation. Many smart people tried to solve it. Niels found a way to prove it could not be solved using a certain method. This is now called the Abel–Ruffini theorem. He also found new ways to study math. These are called Abelian functions.
