Goat Island and Luna Island sit in the river. These islands help separate the falls.

The water has a bright green color. This is from tiny bits of rock in the water. These bits are called rock flour. The falls make a lot of power. People use the water for hydroelectric power. This is power made from moving water. Many birds visit the area too. They like the river because it does not freeze easily. About 100,000 seagulls stay in the area during winter. The falls were made by melting ice long ago. Huge glaciers moved across the land. As the ice melted, the water carved a path through the rock.
