Nanjing Man

life science Maturity 11-13 Next article →

In 1993, a worker found old bones in China.

He found them in Hulu Cave.

He found two parts of skulls.

He also found one molar tooth.

These bones belong to Homo erectus.

This is an early type of human.

Scientists study these fossils to learn about the past.

Researchers used special tools to find the age of the bones.

They think the skulls are 580,000 to 620,000 years old.

This was a big surprise.

It showed that these humans lived in Asia much earlier than we thought.

The skulls look different from other fossils found in China.

However, they still fit the traits of Homo erectus.

This shows there was a lot of variety in these early humans.

You can see the skull parts today.

They are at a museum in Nanjing.

The museum tells the story of these people.

It also shows how they lived in China long ago.
