Since then, many bones have been found. These bones belong to early humans called Homo sapiens.

At first, experts thought the bones were Neanderthals. Neanderthals were a different group of early humans. But new studies changed what we know. Scientists found stone tools in the cave. Some of these tools were burnt by fire. They used a way to date the burnt tools. This is called thermoluminescence dating.

The tools and bones are about 315,000 years old. This is much older than we thought! It means modern humans lived in Africa much earlier.
