Osman had a very special way of painting. His style was plain but also very perceptive. This means he was very good at noticing things. He used careful attention to show tiny details. His art looked realistic to the people watching.

He did not just draw shapes. He drew things as they truly appeared. This made his work feel very real and alive.

His work began many years ago. His oldest known drawings are from 1560 to 1570. These were for a Turkish translation of a poem. The poem is called the Shahnama by Ferdowsi.

He also worked on the Siyer-i Nebi around 1585. This was an epic about the life of Muhammad. He worked on many books for the leader Murad III. These books included the Zafername and the Semailname.

Osman was different from other artists of his time. Before him, portraits often looked very still. Characters did not show much feeling on their faces. Osman changed this by adding deep emotion.

In the story of Rostam and Sohrab, he showed this well. He painted a groom looking shocked and full of grief. This was a new way to show human feelings. His style influenced many painters who came after him.

Many people still talk about Osman today. A famous writer named Orhan Pamuk wrote about him. The novel is called My Name Is Red.
