He was not just a painter, but also a skilled calligrapher. This means he could write beautiful, artistic letters. He was a very important figure in the history of art. His work helped create a new way of seeing the world through painting. He is remembered as a man who could blend different styles into something new.

His career involved many different steps and responsibilities. He grew up in a court workshop where his father, Sultan Muhammed, was a leading artist.

Later, he became a master in the workshop of the Safavid Shah, Tahmasp I. When the Mughal emperor Humayun met him in Tabriz around 1544, he invited Samad to join his service. Samad eventually moved to India to work for the Mughal court. There, he taught the young Emperor Akbar how to draw. He even helped lead the imperial workshop to finish huge projects like the Hamzanama.

History shows that Samad was a bridge between two worlds. He moved from Persia to India during the mid-1500s.

Some scholars believe he might be the same person as a Persian artist named Mirza Ali. They think he might have used a new name when he moved to a new country. His arrival in the Mughal court around 1549 or 1550 changed everything. He brought a grand Persian style to the local artists in India. This helped the Mughal style grow and become much more mature.

There are many specific facts about his busy life. By 1572, Samad was the head of the imperial workshop for Emperor Akbar.

He was very good at managing people and money. Because of this, Akbar gave him many serious jobs. He ran the mint in Fatehpur Sikri in 1576. He also served as the overseer of commerce in 1582. The emperor even gave him the beautiful title of Shirin Qalam, which means "sweet pen."

Samad's influence can be seen in the work of many others. He trained famous artists like Daswanth and Basawan. Even though he liked fine details, his style was different from the newer, more realistic styles that came later. His sons, Muhammad Sharif and Bizhad, also became part of the famous world of painting. His life shows how an artist can become a leader in many ways. He left behind a legacy that helped shape the art of a whole empire.
