Inside each pod are 12 to 14 seeds. These seeds can be green, yellow, brown, or blue.

Mung beans have a very long history. People first grew them in India. Some finds show they were used 4,500 years ago! They spread from India to China and Southeast Asia. People use the seeds in sweet and salty foods. Some even use them to make jelly.

These plants are very helpful to the earth. They work with tiny bits in the soil. This helps them take nitrogen from the air. They put that nitrogen into the ground. This makes the soil better for the next crops.

Growing them can be hard work. Pests like small flies or beetles can hurt the plants. A disease called yellow mosaic can also change the crops. Farmers work hard to grow healthy beans. They want to make sure the seeds are good to eat.
