Long ago, Moynaq was a busy port on the Aral Sea. Many people lived there to fish and make canned food. But the sea began to dry up. This happened because rivers were moved to water farms. Now, the water is 150 km away. The area is part of the Aralkum Desert.

You can see many old, rusty ships in the sand. People call this a ship graveyard.

There is a memorial at the north end of town. A museum also tells the story of the fishing days.

Many people visit for the Stihia festival. It is a large music event. It happens every year at the ship graveyard. The name means "an unstoppable force of nature."

Nature is still nearby. You can find saiga antelope in the wild. Many birds also fly through this area. Some fly from Siberia. You might see 230 kinds of birds here. Some of these birds are very rare.
