He founded a group called the Ahmadiyya movement in Islam. This movement grew very quickly during his lifetime. He wanted to bring people back to the idea of one God. He also hoped to fix how society lived by using Islamic ideals. His work focused on spreading faith in a peaceful way. Many people found his ideas very important for their lives.

His life changed after his father passed away in 1876.

Ahmad said that God began to communicate with him then. He spent forty days in a special time of prayer. This practice is called chilla-nashini. He stayed alone in a small house to seek guidance. During this time, he said he received glad tidings. He believed these messages showed him his special role in the world.

Mirza Ghulam Ahmad came from a family with deep roots.

His family was part of the Mughal Empire. His ancestor, Mirza Hadi Beg, moved from Samarkand in 1530. He brought two hundred people with him to the Punjab. This group eventually settled in the town of Qadian. The family held high positions and served as leaders. They were even known as Mughals in British records.

He was a very busy writer and speaker. Ahmad wrote more than ninety books about religion and morals. His first major work was called Barahin-i-Ahmadiyya in 1880. He used logic to explain his views on faith. He also had many public debates with others. He talked with Christian missionaries and Hindu leaders. These debates helped him share his ideas with the public.

His claims led to many different opinions. He said Jesus survived the crucifixion and died a natural death. This was different from what many Christians and Muslims believed. He also claimed to be a prophet within Islam. This was a big point of disagreement for many people. By his death in 1908, he had 400,000 followers.
