He wanted to help people follow orthodox Sunnite Islam more closely. This means he supported following Islamic Law very strictly. He worked to bring these traditions back to life in India.

Sirhindi had a very busy way of sharing his ideas. He wrote hundreds of letters to many different people. Some letters went to his own students and followers. Other letters went to powerful leaders in the Mughal court. He even wrote letters to the emperors themselves. One researcher found that he wrote about 534 letters.

He used these letters to talk about religious reform. He wanted to change how the government handled religion. He hoped to move away from the policies of Emperor Akbar.

Sirhindi was born in the village of Sirhind in 1564. His family lived in the Punjab region of India. He learned many things from his father and his brother. He also studied with a scholar named Muhammad Tahir al-Lahuri. Later, he studied in a place called Sialkot. There, he learned from a scholar named Kamaluddin Kashmiri. He also studied history and law with Qazi Bahlol Badakhshani. He spent many years learning and memorizing the Qur'an. He joined the Naqshbandi order when he was 36 years old.

His work reached many far-away places in the world. Sirhindi sent many of his students on long journeys. One group of 70 students went to Turkestan. A group of 40 people went to the Arabian Peninsula. They also traveled to Yemen, Syria, and Anatolia. Another group of 10 people went to Kashgar. Even more students traveled to places like Badakhshan and Khurasan.

These missionaries helped spread his teachings across huge lands. They carried his ideas to many different cultures.

Sirhindi had very deep thoughts about how people see God. He had a famous idea called Wahdat ash-Shuhud. This term means "oneness of appearance." He believed that feeling close to God happens in the mind. He wrote about this in his book, Al-Muntakhabaat Min Al-Maktubaat. He disagreed with other ideas about how God and the world relate. He believed that God is never actually united with anything else. Sirhindi died on December 10, 1624. His son, Shaikh Masum, continued to be an important teacher in India.
