arts Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Some actors use a special way to play a part. This is called Method acting. It is a set of ways to practice. Actors try to find the inner feelings of a character. They want to understand why a character acts a certain way.

This idea started with a Russian man named Konstantin Stanislavski. He created a "system" for acting. He wanted actors to experience the story, not just show it.

Later, Lee Strasberg helped make the "Method" popular in the United States. He taught many famous actors. These actors include Marlon Brando and Al Pacino.

Different teachers had different ideas. Stella Adler thought actors should use their imagination. She told them to use "as ifs." This means they imagine a situation to feel the right way. Other teachers thought actors should use their own past memories. This helps them find real emotions. Some actors even stay up all night to feel like their character. They do this to make the art feel very real. It is a way to bring a story to life.
