He lived during the 16th century in the Ottoman Empire. He was born in the town of Visoko in Bosnia. People call him a polymath because he knew so much about many subjects. This is a way to multiply numbers using a mesh or grid. To use it, you multiply numbers in a column from the far right. If the answer is a two-digit number, you write the tens digit above the mesh. You write the ones digit below the mesh. This method was used in the Enderun School long before it became common in Europe. He wrote books about these math ideas, like Cemâlü'l-Küttâb.

Nasuh was also a very talented artist. He made small, detailed paintings called miniatures.

These paintings showed wide, panoramic views of cities and landscapes. He painted with incredible detail. One of his pictures of Istanbul shows almost every street and building. His way of painting was so unique that people called it the "Matrakçı style." He used his art to show the travels of the Ottoman army. He painted the march from Istanbul to Baghdad and then to Tabriz. He also included all the cities the army passed along the way.

His life was full of important jobs for the empire.

He was recruited by Ottoman scouts in Rumelia. Later, he served several different Ottoman sultans. He worked as a weapons teacher at the Enderun School. He even showed his skills in a big demonstration for the sultan's sons. This was part of a celebration for the circumcision of the princes. Because he was so successful, the sultan gave him special titles. He was called Ustad, which means master, and Reis, which means chief.

Today, people still remember the great work of Nasuh. In his hometown of Visoko, people call him a Bosnian Leonardo da Vinci. This compares him to a very famous thinker from history. There is even a street named Matrakčijina after him near a local museum.

His history was even shared with a large audience through a film in 1978. He remains a symbol of how one person can master many different skills. His books and paintings tell us so much about the world he lived in.
