He spent his life making beautiful things. He was most known for his work with carpets. He also designed jewelry and wood carvings. He even made patterns for china and fabric. People loved his work because it was very detailed. He helped decorate the inside of many buildings too. His art brought color and pattern to the world.

Karimov had many ways to teach his craft. He taught students how to weave carpets in different cities. Some of his students could not read or write. To help them, he used a special kind of poetry. These poems were called goshmas. They helped students remember the steps of weaving. He also shared new techniques from Iran with weavers in Karabakh. This helped everyone learn better ways to make rugs.

His journey as an artist began a long time ago.

He was born in Shusha in 1906. His father was a hatter and his mother was a weaver. When he was 14, he started working in a carpet shop. He traveled through Iran to learn more about his craft. Later, he moved to the Soviet Union. He settled in his home city of Shusha and married a weaver named Shovkat.

Latif Karimov achieved many great things in his career.

In 1950, he won the Stalin Prize. This was a very high award in the Soviet Union. He was also named a People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1960. Between 1961 and 1983, he wrote a big three-volume book. This book described over 1,300 different carpet patterns. He spent many years studying these designs to help others.

His hard work changed how people see carpet art.

Because of his passion, a special museum was built in 1967. This is the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. It was the very first museum of its kind in the whole world. In 1991, the museum was named in his honor. He also wrote a dictionary about oriental music between 1947 and 1977. His life shows how one person can protect a whole culture of art.
