Malik wrote a very important book. It is called al-Muwatta. This book is one of the oldest law books in Islam. The name means a "smoothed path." He wrote it to help people find a clear way to follow their faith. Some people said it was the best book after the Quran.

His ideas helped start the Maliki school. This is one of the four main ways people follow Sunni Islam. Many people in North Africa and other lands use his ways. He also taught many famous students. One student was named ash-Shafi'i. Ash-Shafi'i said Malik was like a bright star.

Malik believed that faith is about both words and actions. He also taught that people should study the laws of religion. He said this helps the heart learn deeper truths. People still honor his memory today. He is remembered as a very wise leader of his time.
