Malegaon is a busy city in the Nashik District of Maharashtra, India. It sits right where two rivers meet. These are the Girna and Mosam rivers. The Mosam River flows through the middle of the city. It actually divides the city into two separate parts. The city is located at an elevation of 438 metres. It is about 280 km northeast of Mumbai, which is the state capital. Many people travel through Malegaon on National Highway 3. This road connects the big cities of Mumbai and Agra.

The city has a very interesting way of working. It is famous for its cloth manufacturing industry. Many factories use power looms to weave fabric. Some plants even process the cloth after it is made. There are also companies nearby that make plastic. Around the city, people grow many things on farms. Farmers in nearby areas like Satana and Nampur grow lots of onions. They also grow pomegranates, which are bright red fruits. This makes the area a very important place for farming and making goods.

Long ago, Malegaon was a much smaller place. It was once a tiny junction called Maliwadi. This name meant it was a small group of gardeners. A leader named Naro Shankar Raje Bahadur changed things. He was given 18 villages in the area. In 1740, he started building the Malegaon Fort. He used skilled craftsmen from Surat and northern India. It took 25 years to finish the big fort. After it was done, those craftsmen stayed to live in the town.

Many people live in Malegaon today. The 2011 census showed a population of 481,228 people. About 78.95% of the people follow the religion of Islam. Many others follow Hinduism, Buddhism, or Jainism. The city has a literacy rate of 70.54%. This means many people know how to read and write. There are many schools and colleges for students. People can study many subjects like medicine, pharmacy, or agriculture. Some students even go to night schools to keep learning.

Malegaon has also shown great strength during hard times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the city grew even faster. Local Unani medical doctors played a very important role. They turned their small clinics into places for patients. They even went from home to home to help people. This helped the city manage the sickness very well. Because of this, some people call it a success story. Now, the city is even becoming a place for medical tourism. People travel there to receive medical treatment.
