The Malay Peninsula is a long piece of land.

It sits in Southeast Asia. Parts of it belong to Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar. The land runs from north to south. Its southern tip is Tanjung Piai. This is the southernmost point of the Asian mainland.

A row of mountains runs down the middle. We call these the Titiwangsa Mountains. They act like a backbone for the land. The peninsula is also near the sea. The Strait of Malacca sits between the land and Sumatra. The Straits of Johor separate the land from Singapore.

The land is very green and wet. It has many tropical forests. Some forests have trees that stay green all year. Other forests have trees that lose leaves in some seasons. These woods are home to many animals. You might see an Asian elephant or a tiger. You might also see a sun bear or a tapir.

Many plants and animals live here. Large mangroves grow along both coasts of the land.
