Most kings followed Shiva. One king, Dharapaṭṭa, worshipped the sun.

These leaders were often kind. A traveler named Hiuen Tsang visited in 640 CE. He said the ruler Śilāditya I was very kind.

The kingdom was a great place for learning. They built the Vallabhi University. Students came from all over to study there. The school was as famous as Nalanda University.

The kings were fair to all religions. They helped Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Shiva. This helped the land stay peaceful. Later, the kingdom faced many attacks from Arabs by the sea. The dynasty ended around 776 to 783 CE. Many temples still stand from this time. Most are along the western coast of Saurashtra.
