He was born in Córdoba, Spain, around the years 1135 or 1138. At that time, his family lived under Muslim rule. However, new rulers called the Almohads took over in 1148. This made life very hard for Jewish families. They had to choose between changing their faith or leaving their homes. Maimonides and his family chose to leave Spain.

He studied medicine in both Spain and Fez. He became so good that he worked for a leader named Saladin. He even served as a doctor for the Sultan's secretary. Maimonides wrote about many sicknesses like asthma and diabetes. He also wrote about pneumonia and hepatitis. He did not just follow old books without thinking. Instead, he used his own eyes and experiences to help his patients. He always told people to live a healthy and balanced life.

He also spent much of his time writing important books.

He wrote a huge fourteen-volume set of books about Jewish laws. These books are still used as a guide today. He also wrote thirteen important principles of faith. Maimonides was a very busy man. He often went straight from his work at the palace to treating sick people at home. He even worked on the Sabbath, which is a special day of rest. He wrote many things even when he felt very tired.

Today, people still remember Maimonides in many ways.

He died in December 1204. Many believe he is buried in Tiberias. Because of this, people go on a special journey to visit his tomb. His work was part of a time called the Islamic Golden Age. He learned from many thinkers like Aristotle and Ibn Rushd. His ideas helped connect different kinds of learning together. Even now, his books are a cornerstone for many students of history and faith.
