He studied how air and water move. This field is called fluid dynamics. He was a pioneer in this work. He used math to help build better planes.

One of his biggest ideas was the boundary layer. This is a very thin layer of air near a surface. He found that this layer changes how things move. It can cause drag, which is a force that slows things down. It can also cause a stall. A stall happens when air stops flowing smoothly over a wing.

Prandtl also studied how wings work. He worked on wing-tip effects. This helped designers make wings more efficient. He also studied how air moves at very high speeds. He helped create a way to design rocket nozzles. This method is still used today. His work helped many people build better ships and aircraft.
