The Leinster Branch was officially started on October 31, 1879. They held a big meeting at a place called Lawrence's on Grafton Street. Early matches were very different because teams had 20 players on each side. In 1995, the sport changed when teams became professional. Since then, Leinster has become one of the most successful teams in the land.

The team has won many big prizes over the years.

Leinster has many famous rivals that make their games exciting. They have strong rivalries with other Irish provinces, especially Munster. They also compete against big clubs from France, like Toulouse and La Rochelle.
